Presentation to the CvB / Next meeting
2015-04-02 15:25:31Dear subscribers of the Open Letter (petition) to the University Board,
Dear Colleagues and Students,
After a lively first meeting on Wednesday 01-04, the attendees arrived at the following, two-tier strategy:
1. We will present the letter to the CvB on the 9th of April. As the letter is in no way exhaustive and some of the issues it addresses need further development, it is of paramount importance that you send us an email with any additional concerns you may have. An inventory of these will be included with the letter as a separate attachment. The CvB will then be asked to respond - in writing - to our demands for immediate and concrete action. The letter will also be sent to Erasmus Magazine.
2. We will demand a seat at the table of "Het Goede Gesprek" / "The Good Conversation" - an initiative of the CvB to talk about the unrest at Dutch universities, which unfortunately is now limited to the CvB, the Deans, a number of managers, and finally some faculty representatives chosen by the CvB. We will also demand that these meetings be made publicly accessible. All this does not mean our strategy is only focused on making this "good conversation" a "better conversation". While laudable as an initiative on the part of the CvB, Het Goede Gesprek does not address our concerns fully.
Our next meeting, on the 8th of April (16:00, C1-2), will be dedicated to shaping the appendix to the letter to the CvB. We very much need all input you may have, so please attend this meeting or let us know about your concerns through the petition website () or our emailaddress (rethinkeur@gmail.com).
In the meantime, please continue to circulate the petition!
Regards,
Rethink EUR

Rethink Meetings & Petition
2015-03-28 15:35:43
Tou receive this email because you have signed our petition Rethink EUR. Under that very same banner staff members from various faculties of our university are actively building a community, researchers and lecturers who agree there now is great 'momentum' to get together and discuss how university management currently defines, organizes, finances and assesses our work and how we, as the academic community, could reclaim autonomy, trust and decision-making power in those processes.
To facilitate such a discussion we want to organize platforms on which we can meet with each other, exchange ideas, test proposals for democratic reform of our university and take stock of existing problems we failed to adequately address in our letter but that are clearly connected to the problems we do mention. We are organizing two meetings in the next two weeks.
(1) On Wednesday 1 April, from 4pm-5.30pm, colleagues involved in Rethink EUR will explain the rationale behind and goal of the current petition. So, if you haven't signed yet, because you would first like more information, because you are afraid to do so, or perhaps because you may struggle with some aspects of the text, please join us for further discussion. This meeting will take place in C1-1.
(2) On Wednesday 8 April, from 4pm onwards, we will host a Rethink EUR meeting, where we can start discussing steps and avenues for future collective action and adequate organization. The venue for this is to be confirmed (check Erasmus Magazine online in the run-up to that day). If you reply to this email, we will keep you posted about the location via our mailing list.
Finally, if you sympathize with our cause and want to contribute to the discussion, but are unable to attend, please post your remarks or declaration of support on the petition website, or just send an email so we can include you if further action is taken (this is not required if you signed the petition).
By the way the petition () has already been signed by over 100 of our colleagues! If you know of people who might sympathize with the project please consider inviting them to sign as well.
With best wishes,
Rethink EUR
* For reasons of simplification, we primarily address scientific staff but we realize that many of the issues absolutely also concern and affect the staff that makes our work possible and do invite them to join our initiative.
