Daarna kregen ze gelukkiglijk toch nog een wereldvisie en begrip voor hun driedubbele thuiscultuur (inbegrip thuistalen) in een Steinerschool. Ik leerde zelf Hindi aan, aan mijn oudste dochter. Ik stoor me buitenmatig aan het gangbare europacentrisme.
Kunt U, meneer Pascal Smet daar een antwoord op geven?

Si no hablamos el neerlandés: críticas porque no lo hablamos...y cuando decidimos que nuestros hijos lo hablen y sean multilingues tampoco es suficiente!!!!! Esto no hay quien lo entienda ya que además cuando uno va a inscribir a un hijo a un colegio neerlandofono no lo inscriben si uno de los padres no habla el idioma. Cúal es el lema ¿como tu padre no lo habla no lo puedes aprender y por eso vamos a acabar con los proyectos de los colegios que lo permiten? qué ironía !! TAMPOCO HABLABAN MIS PADRES FRANCES CUANDO LLEGARON A BELGICA pero han hecho lo posible para que yo lo hablara y lo transmitiera. Cuando llegó mi turno, me encargué de que mis hijos hablaran el neerlandés, el español y además hablan francés. Si eso no se llama integración, ya me contará, Sr. Ministro, lo que es. Y esto encima sin perder las raíces. Estamos en la Unión Europea, viva el multilinguismo y el multiculturalismo!! Este proyecto bicultural se me asemeja al ERASMUS de la UE pero a nivel belga, debería Sr. Ministro, enorgullecerse de esto y no tirarlo abajo.
I am all for multi-lingual education, I was lucky to have had it myself, and to speak a few languages myself. I am also all for integration, and respecting the local community one immigrates into. When one immigrates to a regions, one is better prepared to learn the local language, and one is better prepared to integrate. Holding up that mirror is not an easy one, demanding that the local tax payer finances special education, and provides classes in Turkish, Arabic in all its flavors, Italian, Spanish, Polish, Portuguese, English, French, Swahili, German, Danish, Norwegian, Finnish, Hungarian, Bulgarian, Slovenian,…. is easier. Where does much become too much? Where do you draw the line, which languages are in and which ones are out?

#82: - This sounds very segregationist. Not very open, not very respectful for the host country. Those fellow "native" countrymen may not always treat foreigners respectfully, but the answer is not to keep fueling the same segregationist atttitude.

In view of these findings, along with the inextricable connection between language and identity, it defies reason to terminate funding for dual language projects that have proven academically successful for so many children.

As a sociolinguist specialising in multilingualism, I wish to emphasise not only the emotional benefits but to children of beginning their education in their 'home' language, but also to reiterate the posting above on the cognitive benefits, proven by long years of reliable research on the matter.
Sono sgomento alla lettura di tale notizia. Sono italiano, figlio di emigrati e nato qui in Belgio. Ho imparato l'italiano sia con l'aiuto dei miei genitori sia andando a scuola il mercoledi' pomeriggio e il sabato mattino. Sarebbe stato tutto più facile se un progetto biculturale fosse esistito all'epoca.
Bruxelles è la capitale dell'Europa e quindi automaticamente, naturalmente multiculturale. Che bello potere dare la possibilità ai giovani d'imparare la lingua d'origine dei genitori. Ovviamente, la cultura non "rende", non è misurabile l'impatto economico. Ma siamo certi che le bici a noleggio lo siano? E purtroppo ce ne sono dapertutto nella capitale. Visibilità massima. E va bene. Ma la cultura, la LINGUA, unico vettore d'universalità, dove la mettiamo?
Dove la mettono tutti gli italiani emigrati e cresciuti qui?
La mettono al centro dell'integrazione sia qui che in Italia.
Il ministro Smet si sbaglia di grosso. La communità fiamminga non puo' tirarsi indietro. Almeno che non ci sia la volontà di creare regione unilingue. In tal caso, non ha posto nell'Europa. E' sarebbe un errore madornale.
Soldi?
Due macchine di ministri basterebbe a finanziare il biculturale. Volete le bici? Date l'esempio, andate al pralamento fiammingo in bici, via le macchine.
Il biculturale deve continuare. Ho partecipato a varie feste italiane e altre: che ricchezza! Che fiore all'occhiello per la communità che permette di svilupparsi, di crescere in modo bilingue, se non trilingue.
Dico chiaramente: basta a queste decisioni incomprensibili. Dopo il Sig. Smet ci sarà la signora Tala dei tali che vorrà ripropporre il progetto.
Ma la vita è un progetto o è, naturalmente, LA vita?
Viva il biculturale!
